It was a busy and exciting summer for Arctic Loon so far in 2016. In February we welcomed our newest crew member Maddie (our daughter) and she has over 30 sea days under her belt so far on Arctic Loon.
The purchase of a new Ultrafeed sewing machine has been instrumental in making new lee cloths, curtains and porthole covers to make cruising life more comfortable.
Another very useful addition was a new Simrad TP32 tiller pilot that is like an extra crew member that does not complain, require any sleep or eat any of our provisions.
Our summer cruising encompassed the Southern Gulf Islands. We explored new anchorages and revisited old favourites. We had success in trying out stern ties and mooring balls. We also enjoyed the hospitality of several other yacht clubs through the use of reciprocal privileges. We were pleased to be able to cruise comfortably for over a week at a time without need for reprovisioning.
The continued work on Arctic loon is now transitioned from a refit to outfitting for extended voyaging. Upcoming projects include adding a self steering windvane, asymetrical spinnaker and installing the diesel heater.
